If the sun and the planets carried huge amounts of opposite charges

A

all three of Kepler's laws would still be valid

B

only the third law will be valid

C

the second law will not change

D

the first law still be valid

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
C, D

Due to huge amount of opposite charges on the sun and planet, large electrostatic force will also be generated along with gravitational force of attraction. This will result into decrease in distance between sun and planets.
Electrostatic force and gravitational force both follow inverse square law and are central forces and are of same nature (attractive) in the given case, so Kepler.s `I^(st)` and `2^(nd)` laws will be valid.
The correct options are (c ) and (d).
