What will be the effect on the acceleration due to gravity at poles and at equator
(a) If earth stops rotating ?
(b) If rate of rotation of earth increases ?

Text Solution

(a) If earth stops rotating, acceleration due to gravity at equator will increases by a factor of `R omega^(2) = 0.034 m//s^(2)`. There will be no change in value of g at poles.
(b) If rate of rotation of earth decreases, then acceleration due to gravity will decrease at points on the surface of earth. But there will be no change in value of g at poles.
