Suppose that angular velocity of rotation of earth is increased. Then, as a consequence :

A

Weight of the object everywhere on the earth will decrease

B

Weight of the object everywhere on the earth will increase

C

Except at poles weight of the object on the earth will decrease

D

There will be no change in weight anywhere on the earth.

The correct Answer is:
C

Acceleration due to gravity on the surface of the earth in terms of latitude `phi` can be approximately written as follows :
`g. = g - omega^(2) r cos^(2) phi`
We can see that acceleration due to gravity at poles `(phi = 90^(@))` is not affected by angular speed `(omega)` of the earth or everywhere else it will decrease on increasing `omega`. Hence option (c ) is correct.
