Would you expect benzaldehyde to be more reactive or less reactive in nucleophilic addition reactions than propanal? Explain your answer.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The carbon atom of the carbontl group of benzaldehyde is less electrophilic than carbon atom of the carbonyl group in the propanal . This is because the polarity of the carbonyl group is decreased in benzaldehyde due to resonance therefore , benzaldehyde is less reactive is less reactive than propanal
