A cylindrical vessal is filled with water as shown in the figure .Calculate the difference in pressure due to water at points A and B .(Pressure due to air is negligible ,density of water `=1 g cm^(-3))`

A

600 Pa

B

1200 Pa

C

The correct Answer is:
D

Given ,depth of point A,`h_A= 100 cm = 1m`
depth of point `B,h_(B)= 40 cm = 0.4 m `
density of water `d=1 gm ^(-3)=1000 kgm^(-3)`
Pressure `P=F/A=(mg)/A=("volume" xx "density" xx g )/("area of cross section ")`
`=(pir^2 h xx d x g )/(pi r^2)`
At 'A' `P_(A)= h_Adg= 1xx 1000xx10= 10,000 pa`
At 'B' `=h_Bdg=0.4 xx 1000xx 10 = 4000 pa`
The difference in pressure `P_B-P_A`= 10,000 - 4,000= 6,000 pa
Hence the correct option is (d)
