A is an aqueous acid, B is an aqueous base. They are diluted separately, then

A

pH of A increases and pH of B decreases

B

pH of A increases and pH of B decreases till pH in each case is seven

C

pH of A and B increase

D

pH of B and A decrease

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
B

A is an aqueous acid if it is diluted molar concentration decreases (assuming complete dissociation of acid) and pH value increases. On the otherhand if B is diluted by adding water molar concentration decreases, pOH value increases and pH value decreases. At very low concentration, concentration of `H^(+)` ion from `H_(2)O` should also take in consideration when pH value is calculated.
