5 beats / second are heared when a tuning fork is sounded with a sonometer wire under tension when the length of the sonometer wire is either 0.95 m or 1 The frequency of the fork will be :

A

195Hz

B

251Hz

C

150Hz

D

300Hz

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
A

Probable frequency of tuning fork be `n pm 5`
Frequency of sonometer wire `n prop 1/l`
`therefore (n+5)/(n-5)=100/95 implies 95(n+5)=100(n-5)`
or, `95n+475=100n-500`
or, `5n=975 or n=975/5=195 Hz`
