(i)A breed is a group of animals similar in most of general characters (like appearance, morphological featrues, size, configuration, etc) and related by descent.
(ii) Main objectives of animal breeding are:
a. To develop pure lines of cattle by inbreeding.
b. To tide over the problem of inbreeding depression by out crossing.
c.To combine the good qualities of two different breeds by cross breeding.
d.To combine the desirable characters of two different species by inter specific hybridisation so that highly economically useful hybrids are produced.
