(i) Apiculture is the process of rearing of honey bees in the artificial bee-hives, called apiaries, for the increased production of honey and beeswax at the commercial level.
(ii) Apiculture is of great importance to the human beings in the following ways:
a. Increases production of honey having hight nutritice value as it contains levulose (42%), dextrose (23%), maltose (10%), enzymes and pigments (25%), minerals, vitamins and water.
b. honey also has medicinal importance as it is used as laxative, antiseptic and sedative so is used against gastrointestinal/ and liver disorders.
c. Honey is used in the manufacturing of cakes.
d.Beeswax has industrial importance and is used in cosmetics, paints and ointments, polishes, etc. f. It provides additional income generating activity to the farmers.
