what is the difference between a breed and a species ? Give an example for each category.

A species is the group of organisms of both the sexes which are similar in certain basic characters, interbreed under natural conditions and produce fertile offsprings e.g. All the cows of the world have the same scientific name (Bos indicus) and belong to the same species.
A breed is a group of animals which are related by descent and share many similarities e.g. Gir, Sahiwal and Tharparkar are indigenous breeds of cows, while Jersey, Brown Swiss, etc. are exotic breeds.
