Why do high altitude areas have brighter sunlight and lower temperatures as compared to the plains?

High altitude areas receive brighter sunlight because the atomosphere of such areas is thinner and free of dust particles so incoming sunlight is not much diffracted and outgoing infra-red rays are not blocked.
