(a) An individual or organism is the smallest category of ecological hierarchy and is characterized by : Performs all the body functions independently but cannot exist in isolation because shows interdependence with both biotic and abiotic factors of environment. It is always cellular in nature and is a quantitative unit . It is capable of reproduction to produce new individuals with many similarities with the parents. It is fully adapted to its environment nad has a definite life span.
