Explanation

A biome is a large regional biosystem characterized by a major vegatation and distinct landscape characters. Each biome has regional and local variations so that there is a wide variety of habitats and ecological niches. In different habitats, different types of flora and fauna exist so reducing the chances of competition between them e.g.
In a tropical forest biome, vegatation is arranged in five starta : overstorey (over 40 feet), understorey, (between 20 to 40 feet), transgressive (between 4 to 20 feet), seedling (from soil level to 4 feet)and subterranean (upto depth of 2 to 3 metres below soil level). Stratification of vegetation also affects the distribution of animals e.g. upper storeys are dominated by brilliantly coloured birds.
