Which element is responsible for causing soil salinity? At what concentration does the soil become saline?

Most important mineral causing soil salinity is `Na^(+)` which is found as NaCl, though it is also caused by chlorides , sulphates, carbonates and nitrates of potassium, magnesium and sodium, and chlorides and nitrates of calcium.
Soil becomes truly saline when NaCl concentration in the soil is 1.0% or more. Plants found is such saline soil are called Euhalophytes.
