R.Q. is the ratio of volume of `CO_(2)` released to the volume of `O_(2)` taken up in respiration.
R.Q. `= ("Moles of " CO_(2) " produced")/("Moles of " O_(2) "absorbed")`. (i) Value of R.Q. is 1 in carbohydrates. (ii) Value of R.Q. is less than 1 in fats.
