Define external fertilization. Mention its disadvantages.

In external fertilization , syngamy occurs in the external medium (water ) i.e., outside the body of organism e.g., majority of algae , fishes as well as amphibians.
Disadvantage . Organsims undergoing external fertilization release a large number of gametes indicating higher rate of synchrony between of offspring are produced. But such offspring are higly vulnerable to predators therating their survival upto adulthood.
