Give reasons as to why cell division cannot be a type of reproduction in multicellular organisms.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Reproduction is of two types asexual and sexual. Mitosis is required to increase the number of cells during reproduction in asexual and sexual reproduction. Gametes do not fuse in asexual reproduction. During sexual reproduction, meiosis is required to form the haploid gametes. Here fusion of gametes takes place. Thus cell division occurs for growth and cannot be classified as type of reproduction.
