The number of taxa exhibiting asexual reproduction is drastically reduced in higher plants (angiosperms) and higher animals (vertebrates) as compared with lower groups of plants and animals. Analyse the possible reasons for this situation.

Sexual production improves the quality of progeny (fitness) despite reducing the overall number of offspring. It also creates genetic vartiation . Hybrid vigour occurs. Sexual repoduction can combie the effect of two beneficial mutations in the same individual . In most of multicellular sexual species , the population consists of two sexes. Only one of which is capable of bearing young one . Sex combines genes of two individuals . Due to formation of better characters by sexual reproduction , organisms reproducing asexually get drastically reduced in higher organisms , planta and animals .
