What is apomixis and what is its importance ?

Inapomixis seeds are formed without fertilization directly from diploid cells of nucellus or integument(eg ango) or diploid egg or some other gametophytic cell (eg. Apple).It has been reported particularly in grasses. Apomixis have advantages in horticulture and agriculture. Apomixis term was coined by Winkier (1906). Apomixis has the potential to maintain hybrid vigour indefinitely.
