The`E^0 (M^(2+)| M) ` value for copper is positive and this shows that it is least reactive metal among the elements of first transition series. This is because copper has high enthalpy of atomisation and high enthalpy of ionization. Therefore, the high energy required to convert Cu(s) to `Cu^(2+)` (aq) is not balanced by its hydration enthalpy.
