Briefly describe the RNA interference process for preventing nematode infestation of plants.

RNA interference (RNAi) takes place in all eukaryotic organisms as a method of cellular defence. This method involves the silencing of a specific mRNA due to a complementary double stranded RNA molecule that binds to it and prevents translation of mRNA. The source of this complementa ry RNA could be from an injection by viruses having RNA genomes or mobile genetic elements.
