A light ray is incident at an angle of `45^@` with the normal to a `sqrt2` cm thick plate` (mu2.0)`. Find the shift in the path of the light as it emerges out from the plate.

By Snell.s law
`(sini)/(sin r)=mu`
`:.sin r=(sin i)/(mu)`……….i

In `DeltaABC" " AC=(AB)/(cos r)`
In `DeltaACD" "CD=AC sin(i-r)`
`=(AB)/(cos r)sin (i-4)`……….ii
On substituting `AB=sqrt(2)cm i= 45^(@)`
and solving `CD=0.62cm`
