A certain buffer solution contains equal concentration of `X^-` and HX. The `K_b` for `X^-` is `10^-10`. The pH of the buffer is:

The correct Answer is:
4

Given that
`because K_(b(X^(-)) = 10^(-10)` and for conjugate acid-base pair
`K_(a(HX)) xx K_(b(X^(-))) = 10^(-14) rArr K_(a(HX)) = 10^(-4)`
But `underset("(acid) = (salt)")([HX]=[X^(-)])`
Now using Handerson's equation
`:. pH = -log K_(a) + log.(["Salt"])/(["Acid"]) rArr pH = -log 10^(-4) = 4`
