Define the term 'drift velocity' of charge carriers in a conductor and write its relationship with the current flowing through it.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Drift velocity of charge carriers in a conductor is defined as that average velocity with which charge carriers drift in the presence of an external electric field.
Current` I=n Aev_d` ,
where n=number density of conduction electrons,
A=cross-section area of conductor and e=charge on an electron.
