Nichrome and copper wires of same length...

Nichrome and copper wires of same length and same radius are connected in series. Current I is passed through them. Which wire gets heated up more ? Justify your answer.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In series circuit same current I flows through both the wires. Hence, heat produced `H = I^2 R` or `H prop R`. For same length and same radius the resistance of nichrome wire is more due to its higher resistivity, hence nichrome wire is heated up more than the copper wire.
