Three equal weight A,B and C of mass 2kg...

Three equal weight `A,B` and `C` of mass `2kg` each are hanging on a string passing over a fixed frictionless pulley as shown in the figure. The tension in the string connecting weights `B` and `C` is approximately

A

zero

B

13.0 newton

C

3.3 newton

D

19.6 newton

The correct Answer is:
B

`T - mg = ma`……….(i)
For motion of body B and C
2mg - mg = 3ma or `a= g/3`
For motion of body C, `mg - T_(1) = ma`
or `T_(1) = m(g-a) =m(g-g/3) = (2mg)/3 = 13` newtons.
