Two blocks of 2 kg and I kg are in contact on a frictionless table. If a force of 3 N is applied on 2 kg block, then the force of contact between the two blocks will be

A

0 N

B

1 N

C

2 N

D

3 N

The correct Answer is:
B

Common acceleration of the system, `a = 3/(2+1) = 1 ms^(-2)`
Let N be the force of contact between the two blocks. The free body diagram of 1 kg block is as shown in fig.
The equation of motion is
`N = 1 xx a = 1 xx 1 = 1N`
The free bopdy diagram of 2 kg block is as shown in figure.

The equation of motion is
3-N = 2a
N =3-2a = 3-2 xx (1) = 1N
