The volumes of `4N HCI` and `10 N HCI` required to make 1 litre of `6N HCI` are

A

0.75 litre of 4 N HCl and 0.25 litre of 10 N HCl

B

0.25 litreof 4 N HCl and 0.75 litre of 10 N HCl

C

0.67 litre of 4 N HCl and 0.33 litre of 10 N HCl

D

0.50 litre of 4 N HCl and 0.20 litre of 10 N HCl

The correct Answer is:
C

Let volume of 4N HCl used = x mL
Volume of 10 N HCl used = (1000 -x) mL
` N_(1)V_(1) + N_(2)V_(2) = N_(3) V_(3)`
` 4 xx x + 10 xx (1000 - x) = 6 xx 1000`
` 6x = 4000`
` x = (4000)/(6) = 666.7 mL`
` 6 x = 4000 `
` x = (4000)/(6) = 666.7 mL`
Vol.of 4 N HCl used = 0.67 L
Vol. of 10 N HCl used = 1 - 0.67
=0.33 L
