(i) The fruity smell compounds are: esters.
Chemical equation:
`CH_(3)-overset(O)overset(||)C-OH+CH_(3)CH_(2)OH overset("Conc. "H_(2)SO_(4))to CH_(3)-overset(O)overset(||)C-O-CH_(2)-CH_(3)+H_(2)O`
Product.s chemical name: Ethyl ethanoate.
(ii) Conc. `H_(2)SO_(4)` acts as a dehydrating agent.
