Write the Nernst equation for the cell reaction in the Daniel cell. How will the `E_("cell")` be affected when concentration `Zn^(2+)` ions is increased ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The following reaction takes place
`Zn + Cu^(2+) to Zn^(2+) + Cu` The Nernst equation may be written as
`E_("cell") = E_("cell")^(@) - 0.059/2 log ([Zn^(2+)])/([Cu^(2+)])`
`E_("cell")` decreases when concentration of `Zn^(2+)` ions increases.
