Why is it generally preferred to obtain the balance point in the middle of the meter bridge wire ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

This is done to minimize the percentage error in the value of the unknown resistance.
Alternatively : This is done to have a beter "balancing out" of the effects of any irregularity or non-uniformity in the meter bridge wire.
OR
This can help in increasing the sensitity of the meter bridge circuit.

Which material is used for the meter bridge wire and why ?

The figure shows a 2.0V potentiometer used for the determination of internal resistance of a 1.5V cell. The balance point of the cell in open circuit is 76.3 cm. When a resistor of 9.5Omega is used in the external circuit of the cell, the balance point shifts to 64.8 cm length of the potentiometer wire. Determine the internal resistance of the cell.

Explain the experiment to determine the resistivity of the material of the wire using meter bridge.

Two resistances are connected in two gaps of a metre bridge. The balance point is 20 cm from the zero end. A resistance of 15 ohm is connected in series with the smaller of the two. The null point shifts to 40 cm. The value of the smaller resistance, in ohm is

If 10 Omega is unplugged from a standard resistance box and 33 1/3 cm is the balancing length obtained in the metre bridge, then calculate the resistance of the wire.

An unknown resistance R_1 is connected in series with a resistance of 10 ohm . This combination is connected to one gap of meter bridge while a resistance R_2 is connected in other gap. The balance point is at 50 cm . Now, when the 10 ohm resistance is removed balance point shifts to 40 cm . The value of R_1 is (in ohm)
