Answer the following question :
The motion of a simple pendulum is approximately simple harmonic for small angle oscillations. For larger angles of oscillation, a more involved analysis shows that T is greater than `2pisqrt(l/g)`, Think of a qualitative argument to appreciate this result.

`sin theta lt theta` , if the restoring force, `mg sin theta` is replaced by `mgtheta`, this amounts to effective reduction in angular acceleration [Eq.(14.27)] for large angles and hence an increase in time period T over that given by the formula `T=2pisqrt(l/g)` where one assumes `sintheta=theta`

Check the accuracy of the relation T=2pisqrt((L)/(g)) for a simple pendulum using dimensional analysis.

The period of oscillation of a simple pendulum is given by T=2pi sqrt((l)/(g)) . The length l of the pendulum is about 0.5s. The time of 100 oscillations is measured with a watch of 1 s resolution. Calcualte percentage error in measurment of g.

The period of oscillation of a simple pendulum is T = 2pisqrt(L/g) . Measuted value of L is 20.0 cm known to 1mm accuracy and time for 100 oscillations of the pendulum is found to be 90s using a wrist watch of 1 s resolution. What is the accuracy in the determination of g ?

The period of oscillation of a simple pendulum is T = 2pisqrt(L//g) . Measured value of L is 20.0 cm known to 1mm accuracy and time for 100 oscillations of the pendulum is found to be 90 s using a wrist watch of 1 s resolution. What is the accuracy in the determination of g?

Answer the following question : Time period of a particle in SHM depends on the force constant k and mass m of the particle: T=2pisqrt(m/k) . A simple pendulum executes SHM approximately. Why then is the time period of a pendulum independent of the mass of the pendulum?

The period of oscillation of a simple pendulum is given by T=2pisqrt((l)/(g)) where l is about 100 cm and is known to have 1 mm accuracy. The period is about 2 s. The time of 100 oscillation is measrued by a stop watch of least count 0.1 s. The percentage error is g is

A pendulum has a period T for small osillations. An obstacle is placed directly beneath the pivot, so that only the lowest one - quarter of the string can follow the pendulum bob when it swings to the left of its resting position. The pendulum is released from rest at a certain point. How long will it take to return to that point again ? In answering this question, you may assume that the angle between the moving string and the vertical stays small throughout the motion.
