The rate of a reaction is given as , rate ` = k[X]^(3//2) [Y]^(-1//2)`
What is the order of the reaction ? If Y is taken large in excess , write the rate equation.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Rate law of the reaction is given as , rate ` = K[X]^(3//2)[Y]^(-1//2)`
Order with respect to X is 3/2.
Order with respect to Y is -1/2.
Over all order of the reaction = 3/2 -1/2 = 1 .
If Y is taken large in excess, the rate is independent of its concentration , as [Y] is taken as constatn during the course of reaction .
The rate equation where X is isolated is , rate ` = K[X]^(3//2)`
