An ammeter of resistance 1 W can measure...

An ammeter of resistance 1 W can measure current upto 1.0 A. (i) What must be the value of the shunt resistance to enable the ammeter to measure upto 5.0 A? (ii) What is the combined resistance of the ammeter and the shunt?

(i) Shunt resistance, `S=(R_(A)i_(g))/(i-i_(g))=(1xx1)/(5-1) = 0.25 Omega`.
(ii) Total resistance , `(1)/(R_("total"))=(1)/(0.25) +(1)/(1) =5 `
`therefore (1)/(R_("total"))=(1)/(5) Omega = 0.2 Omega.`
