What is 'copper matte'?

Copper matte is obtained when the copper ore is heated in a reverberatory furnace after mixing with silica. Iron oxide froms a slag of iron silicate by combining with silica. Copper is produced in the form of copper matte. This contains `Cu_(2)S` and FeS.
