Write any 3 demerits of Arrehenius theory of electrolytic dissociation.

(i) According to X- ray crstallographic studies, ions in electrolytes are present in fused state also, dissolving in water is not the only criteria.
(ii) It did not explain mechanism of electrolysis.
(iii) Arrehenius could not explain the behaviour of strong electrolytes which dissociate completely in solution.
(iv) It did not take into account the electrostatic force of attraction between oppositely charged ions. It did not take into account the role of solvent.
