"The rate of breathing in aquatic organisms is much faster than that seen in terrestrial organisms." Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

• A terrestrial organism can obtain oxygen directly from the air and have slow breathing rate but ilquatic organisms have to obtain oxygen for respiration which is dissolved in water.
• Since, the amount of oxygen dissolved in water is fairly low as compared to the amount of oxygen in air the rate of breathing in aquatic organism is much faster.
