In which orientation, a dipole placed in a uniform electric field is in (i) stable (ii) unstable equilibrium ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

A dipole placed in a uniform electric field is in a stable equilibrium when angle between `vecp` and `vec E` is `0^@`.
(ii) For unstable equilibrium the angle between `vec p and vec E` should be `pi` radian.
