Draw 3 equipotential surfaces corresponding to a field that uniformly increases in magnitude but remains constant along Z-direction. How are these surfaces different from that of a constant electric field along Z-direction ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Three equipotential surfaces having potentials `V_1= 3V,V_2=2 V and V_3=V` corresponding to a field `vecE = E_0 vecZ` , which increases uniformly in magnitude but remains constant along Z-direction, have been shown in figure. As `vecE` is increasing along +ve direction of Z-axis, distance between two successive equipotential surfaces goes on decreasing.

For a constant electric field along Z-direction distance between successive equipotenital surfaces is same as shown in figure.
