Why does physisorption decrease with the increase of temperature ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Physisorption is an exothermic process i.e., heat is produced in the process,
`underset("(Adsorbent)")("Solid")+ underset("(Adsorbate)")(Gas) iff underset("(Gas adsorbed on solid )")("Gas/Solid") + "Heat"`
According to Le-Chatelier.s principle, if we increase the temperature, equilibrium will shift in the backward direction, i.e., gas is released from the adsorbed surface.
