State the uses of nitric acid.

The major use of nitric acid is in the manufacture of ammonium nitrate for fertilisers and other nitrates for use in explosives and pyrotechnics.
Nitro compounds such as nitroglycerin, trinitrotoluene etc. are prepared from `HNO_(3)` .
It is also used in the picking of stainless steel, etching of metals and as oxidizer in rocket fuels.
