Explain why :
The dipole moment of chlorobenzene is lower than that of cyclohexyl chloride ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In chlorobenzene, the electron withdrawing inductive effect of - Cl is oppsosed by electron releasing resonance effect. Therefore it has relatively lower dipole moment. In case of cyclohexyl Chloride there is only electron withdrawing inductive effect of Cl atom due to which it has higher dipole moment.
