To convert 1 litre of 1.123N solution of an acid into 1N solution, how much volume of water should be added ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Normality of the given solution = 1.123N = `N_1`
Initial volume of the solution = 1 litre = 1000 ml = `V_1`
required normality after dilution = 1N = `N_2`
final volume of the solution = `V_2`
`therefore N_1V_1=N_2 V_2 , 1.123 xx 1000=1 xx V_2`
`V_2`=1123 ml ,
`therefore` The volume of water to be added = `V_2-V_1` =1123 ml - 1000ml =123 ml
