Is surface tension a vector ?...

Is surface tension a vector ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Surface tension is a scalar quantity .
Surface tension `=("Work")/("Area of surface")`
The amount of work done in increasing the unit area of liquid surface is called surface tension. The work is a scalar quantity and hence surface tension is also scalar quantity.
