Why Sun is considered as perfect black body ? Explain and also Explain the importance of study of black body radiation.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The radiation from the Sun is continuously distributed over all the wavelengths, therefore the Sun can be considered as a perfect black body.
In another way, temperature on the surface of the Sun is about 5800 K. The radiation from a black body at this temperature is almost similar to that from the Sun. Thus, the surface of the Sun acts like perfectly black body at 5800 K.
Hence, we can say that black body need not to be black in colour.
The characteristics of the radiation emitted by any body depends on its temperature as well as on the type of the material that body.
Whereas the characteristics of radiation emitted by the black body depends only on its temperature.
Thus, the radiation emitted by a perfect black body is universal in nature. This fact shown the importance of study of black body radiation.
