A constant retarding force of 50 N is applied to a body of mass 20 kg moving initially with a speed of `15 m s^(-1)` . How long does the body take to stop ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Retarding force F= - 50 N
Mass m = 20 kg
Final velocity v= 0
By Newton second law of motion
`:. A = (F )/( m ) = (-50)/( 20) -2.5m//s^(2)`
According to equation of motion
`v= v_(0) + at `
`0=15 + (-2.5)t`
`t= (15)/( 2.5) =6s`
