`(A)F_(2)(g)+2e^(-)rarr2F^(-)(g),(B)Cl_(2)(g)+2e^(-)2Cl^(-)(g)`. Which of these processes is easy? Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`F_(2)(g)+2e^(-)rarr2F^(-)(g)` is easy. Though electron gain enthalpy of Cl(g) to give `Cl^(-)(g)` is more than that of F(g) to give `F^(-)(g)`, the bond dissociation of `F_(2)(g)` is very less compared to that of `Cl_(2) (g)`.
