What is the role of the two conducting stationary brushes in a simple electric motor?

The two conducting stationary brushes draw from the battery and supply it to the armature of the motor because as the touch outer sides of the two halves of the splitrings. The inner sides of split rings are insulated and attached to the axle of the motor.
