What is the difference between a direct current and an alternating current? How many times does AC used in India change direction in one second?

The basic difference between direct current and an alternating current is as follows Alternating Current is an electric changes its direction (i.e., polarity after a certain fixed interval of time. Graphically it can be represented as following

Direct Current is an electric current is either constant or variable, but the direction of flow in a conductor remains the same. Sources of DC are voltaic cell, a dry cell, battery, DC generator etc and graphically it is shown as

The frequency of AC in India is 50 cycle/s

but AC changes its directions after every half every time period. `T=(1)/(50xx2)=(1)/(100)s`
Thus, in India AC change itd direction after every `(1)/(100)s`
So, in one second AC change its direction 100 times.
