Mention the role of ribosomes in peptide-bond formation. How does ATP facilitate it?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

There are two sites in the large subunit of the ribosome, for subsequent amino acids to bind to and thus, be close enough to each other for the formation of a peptide bond. The ribosome also acts as a catalyst for the formation of peptide bond. Amino acids become activated by binding with their aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase in the presence of ATP.
